Supporting the National Guard
On May 21, 2015, the Employee Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) hosted a Boss Lift program for employers that support employee participation in the National Guard and Reserve at Rickenbacker International Airport in Columbus, OH.
Hydro Systems’ Scott O’Brien, who is a Guard member, nominated his boss Matt Hayas to the Boss Lift program for his critical accommodating support to Scott and the National Guard and Reserve Service members.
The Boss Lift program provides employers an opportunity to see first-hand what citizen-Airmen experience while away from work to attend military training or activated for a federal or state mission. Almost half of our military force resides in the Guard and Reserve making them an essential part of the military. The men and women who serve in the Reserve Component are unique in that they also have civilian employers.
Taking a ride on the KC 135 Stratotanker
Hayas and other nominated employers boarded a KC 135 Stratotanker aircraft to facilities where they observed other Guard and Reserve members on duty such as Scott O’Brien.
“It was an eye-opening experience being in a military aircraft and seeing a Stealth Fighter Jet up close in person,” Hayas said.
The Boss Lift program allows employers to take time out of their busy schedules to show their support to the employees who deal with balancing the daily duties of their careers, family life and their commitment as Guard members.
The ESGR service certificate
Matt Hayas then signed the ESGR service certificate, “Statement of Support” to gain employer support for the National Guard and Reserve. This certificate makes a commitment to fully recognize, honor and support service members and their families in peace, in crisis, and in war.
